We also offer calibration and servicing, with a typical turnaround time of 48 hours, helping keep your device accurate and ready to go. You can learn more on our calibration page.
Workplace breathalysers
Workplace alcohol testing requires devices that are reliable, accurate and suitable for regular use.
In New Zealand, professional breathalysers used for workplace testing should comply with AS 3547:2019.
For businesses implementing alcohol testing programmes, we recommend the Lifeloc LT7, which is certified to this standard.
Some workplaces may still operate under older policies referencing AS 3547:1997. In these cases, the Lifeloc FC10 remains a suitable option.
Workplace breathalysers differ significantly from personal devices. They are designed to:
- withstand frequent use in demanding environments
- screen groups quickly
- provide passive testing options for rapid POS/NEG screening
- deliver consistent accuracy over time
Professional devices typically have an expected lifespan of 7 to 10 years when properly maintained and calibrated. Both the LT7 and FC10 breathalysers come with a 12 month warranty.
Personal breathalysers
Personal breathalysers are designed for individuals who want a reliable way to check alcohol levels before driving.
Quality can vary significantly between models. Lower cost keychain devices often lose accuracy quickly and may not maintain calibration over time.
At Sober Check, we only supply trusted, high quality breathalysers designed to provide dependable results.
For those wanting long-term accuracy, we recommend the Lifeloc FC10, a professional grade device using the same fuel cell technology trusted in law enforcement breathalysers.
For a more affordable option, the DRIVESAFE Exec or Easy Check breathalysers offer reliable performance for occasional use.
Care and Maintenance
Like any precision device, breathalysers need proper care to maintain accuracy.
Sensors can dry out if the device is left unused for long periods or stored in hot environments like vehicle glove boxes.
To keep your breathalyser performing at its best:
- use it periodically
- store it in a stable environment
- avoid excessive heat or impact
- calibrate it when due
Regular use and calibration will help ensure your breathalysers continues to provide reliable results. You can learn more about Sober Check’s calibration services here.
